Entrepreneur Elon Musk, known for his work with PayPal and Tesla Motors, has developed a concept for a new transportation system that may save Californians commuting time. Musk’s design is a shuttle that would carry passengers between Los Angeles and San Francisco in just 30 minutes.
Still in the early stages, the “Hyperloop” as Musk is calling it, would be a shuttle that functions in a similar way a bank tube at the drive-up teller sends your check deposits from your car to the bank. Musk’s pneumatic tubes would use magnetic attraction to move passenger pods through tubes between destinations.
Despite the fact that this project is much more high-tech and would cost less money than the proposed rail system that California is planning to construct, skeptics are not convinced that Musk’s alternative plan is a better option. Once it is developed and modified, perhaps the people of California will weigh in on the merits of this innovative approach to solving their traffic problems.
