Back in April, Barnes & Noble and Microsoft announced that they would be teaming up and starting a joint venture and the duo announced today that their new company, Nook Media LLC, has passed final regulatory approval. In honor of the occasion a joint press release was issues saying: “Micrsoft and Barnes & Noble’s strategic partnership in Nook Media LLC will enable the companies to advance world-class digital reading experiences to the hundreds of millions of customers they jointly serve.” Nook Media will include all of Barnes & Nobles digital business and has received $300 million in backing from Microsoft. For now Nook will remain a subsidiary of Barnes & Noble rather than a seperate company and “will continue to have a very close and mutually beneficial relationship with Barnes & Noble retail stores.” First up for the joint venture will be a Windows 8 Nook app that will be available for free download at the Windows 8 app store.
