NBC Launches Free Olympics App

Fans of the Olympics will have a whole new way to watch their favorite games this year. NBC announced that they are launching the “NBC Olympics Live Extra” app that will allow users to view 3,500 hours of events live on their mobile devices. Users will need to have a subscription to cable or satellite television to take advantage of the app but it shows how network TV is finally taking into consideration the change in the way consumers view media. The app is available for all Apple devices and a limited number of Android devices and will allow viewers to not only access interviews and athlete biographies but also to customize their experience by choosing their preferred events as “favorites.” The app went live yesterday and will stream all 32 sports featured at the Olympics as well as every competition and medal event.
